Mending A Kitchen Table | UNBOUND In-Gallery Artist Residency
Camilla Ponitggia
UNBOUND – Annual Artist Residency Programme
Each July, UNBOUND transforms the gallery into a working studio, inviting one artist to develop a project within the gallery over the course of a month, making the creative process visible to the public.Camilla Pontiggia is a Johannesburg-based artist, filmmaker, and researcher whose practice explores embodied forms of knowledge, care, memory, and repair. Working across installation, performance, textiles, food, and participatory processes, she investigates how everyday acts of making can become sites of connection and reflection.
For Mending A Kitchen Table, Pontiggia brings the kitchen table into the gallery as a site of ongoing research and collective life. Through bread, clay, textiles, and acts of mending, the project asks what it means to repair relationships, histories, and ways of being in the presence of others.
Breaking Bread Activation
Breaking Bread transforms ornate picture frames, the kind traditionally used to preserve portraits and memories, into sculptures made entirely of bread. As the bread is broken and shared, the work becomes an act of gathering, exchange, and collective experience.
