A Quiet Taking
Lisa Ringwood
EBONY/CURATED is delighted to present A Quiet Takin, the fifth solo exhibition by Lisa Ringwood and her first at the Loop Street Gallery. Amid the slow creep of development and gentrification along Kommetjie’s once untouched coastline, Lisa Ringwood’s ceramics stand as quiet acts of resistance. Her vessels, intricately adorned with finely drawn depictions of birds, baboons, fynbos and indigenous flora, transcend decoration. They serve as vessels of memory, mourning and ecological reverence. Ringwood has refined her practice through the tactile processes of hand-building and slab moulding, enriched by sgraffito detailing and the use of coloured slips, oxides and underglaze pigments. Following years of experimentation, from wheel-thrown forms to tin-glazed earthenware, she has developed a distinct and deeply personal visual language that connects craft, place and environment.
