Thelma Bernice is a 24-year-old artist and songwriter whose love for music began almost at birth. She quite literally grew up in a music school, surrounded by melodies, harmonies, and musicians from a young age.

She sang her way through childhood, performing in the East Rand Youth Choir, participating in multiple eisteddfods, and later becoming part of the world-renowned Stellenbosch University Choir. Even as a child, she was writing songs and performing to an audience of cows and geese, singing freely on a farm, driven by emotion and creativity.

Although she studied Management Accounting, Bernice has never fit neatly into one box. She describes herself as an all-rounder: not a typical accountant and not a typical musician either. Her music reflects that freedom and is joyful, honest, and deeply personal.

She kick-started a university band called Victoriastraat, performing for friends and at events such as Carry Sixpacker and the Woordfees. The band went on to work with the prestigious Helmut Meijer at Stonebed Music, gaining valuable experience and refining their sound. Victoriastraat released their debut EP, In Dok Se Hok, in June 2023.

Bernice has been writing music for as long as she can remember. Her new single, Draai Na Die Hemel, marks the beginning of her solo career and is a heartfelt tribute to the One who gifted her with music. The song speaks about breaking free from destructive cycles, turning back to the Creator, and learning to believe the truth spoken over you rather than the lies you tell yourself.

In addition to her solo work, she is currently a worship vocalist, a role that continues to shape her music and message today. Her work speaks of authenticity, faith, and a lifelong passion for music.
