The Shape of Silence
Olamide Ogunade
Eclectica Contemporary is pleased to present The Shape of Silence, a solo show by Nigerian artist Olamide Ogunade. The Shape of Silence offers a vivid meditation on the poetics of stillness, situating the Black figure within richly textured domestic and natural environments. Rather than pursuing abstraction, Ogunade constructs an immersive realism infused with surreal, whimsical motifs, most notably, floating bubbles, that disrupt the quiet gravity of each scene.
Working in charcoal and acrylic, Ogunade negotiates a careful balance between the density of form and the luminosity of colour. The dark, almost silhouetted faces and bodies, rendered with matte depth, become anchors within vibrant settings, rooms patterned with vintage textiles, lush greenery, and saturated backdrops.
