About this programme item

Gallery F presents an extension of the PAPA-SA Archive, an initiative of The Photographic Archival & Preservation Association of South Africa, founded 26 years ago by photographer Gavin Furlonger.

For over two decades, Gavin Furlonger has safeguarded and archived significant South African photographic works, focusing on the preservation of negatives, vintage prints and photographic histories. Sean Furlonger continues this work through Gallery F, leading archival research, curatorial direction and public engagement.

On view is a selection of historically important South African photography spanning more than seven decades. Each photograph is treated as both artwork and historical document.

This exhibition reflects a sustained commitment to the long-term preservation of South Africa’s photographic heritage.
