About this programme item

The drawings presented in Remember this Land are a profound meditation on humanity's failure to care for its home. Raubenheimer’s work serves as a reminder of how humanity has violated the land, rivers, oceans, and atmosphere. The exhibition reflects on humanity's forgetting of its indelible link to nature and the existential consequences that follow such a retreat from memory. Remember this Land speaks to the fear of an uncertain future and to our collective yearning for landscape. Each drawing endeavors to locate the "genius loci" – the spirit of place – of a particular site within the artist's memory and imagination, illuminated by the sun, clouds, or the constellation of Orion in the night sky. Raubenheimer's practice considers humanity's collective consciousness and how to relocate the faint part of our memory that recalls a time when we truly lived in and with nature.
