Reflections of a Queen
Kganya Mogashoa
Reflections of a Queen is both a celebration and an act of resistance. Through each portrait, the artist reclaims cultural space, embedding history back into public consciousness through visual language. Mogashoa addresses the daily injustices faced by women - gender-based violence, economic exclusion and social invisibility - and transforms them into layered works of reverence and protest.
This body of work reimagines women’s representation on banknotes and coins, challenging how society assigns value to women’s contributions and captures the lived realities, spiritual depths, and historical presence of women across generations from different geographical locations.
On view in AVA's Front Gallery until 25 September 2025.
This exhibition was made possible thanks to the City of Cape Town's support.
