PRETTY BOY
Josie Borain
Pretty Boy presents a selection of previously unseen photographs made by Josie Borain between 1983 and 1989, drawn from an extensive archive produced while she was living in New York at the height of the city’s cultural intensity. Best known as one of South Africa’s first global supermodels and the face of major fashion campaigns, Borain was simultaneously developing a parallel photographic practice, moving between street scenes, creative circles, and intimate self-portraits. Co-curated with her daughter, Willow Borain, the exhibition brings together a focused selection of images that capture the grit, atmosphere, and shifting identities of 1980s New York, revealing Borain as a perceptive photographic voice whose work is being presented as a cohesive body for the first time.
