Pinned to Memory
Sahlah Davids
Eclectica Contemporary is pleased to announce its participation in the second edition of HEAT Festival, taking place from 6–16 August 2025. As part of this year’s programme, the gallery will present two solo exhibitions by Cape Town-based artists Sahlah Davids (b. 1998, South Africa) and Rory Emmett (b. 1992, South Africa). In her exhibition, Sahlah Davids explores memory, material culture, and intergenerational storytelling through the use of textiles, dressmaking pins, and luminous beads. Objects such as the pin, the bead, and the ruching of fabric—materials that both pierce and bind—become metaphors for what holds memory together when it threatens to unravel. Her practice is rooted in the acts of unpicking and recollecting, transforming everyday materials into quiet but potent vessels of remembrance, shaped by histories passed down through the hands of both men and women.
A walkabout with both artists will take place on 9 August from 10am to 11am.
