About this programme item

In Her Hands is an all-female exhibition celebrating the power, resilience, and creative force of women, not just as subjects, but as shapers of history, culture, and future worlds. Timed to coincide with Women’s Day on 9 August 2025, the exhibition honors the legacy of the 1956 Women’s March while spotlighting the contemporary voices of women artists across South Africa and the continent. The exhibition centers the hands as a metaphor for labour, nurture, protest, creation, resistance, and restoration. From hands that carried placards and children, to hands that weave, heal, build, paint, write, and raise generations — In Her Hands is a tribute to the generative and transformative power women hold.
