Frederike Stokhuyzen speaks of her approach to painting: "My work is figurative, with a strong decorative interpretation, the emphasis being on linear designs in nature and manmade forms." Her paintings are serene and lyrical; lines or outlines flow and repeat themselves, forming an interesting natural design. Pure colour, applied with a palette knife, gives shape to her subjects. Frederike’s unique style is clearly recognizable; it is the culmination of a process that begins with the pen-and-wash sketches she records in the open air of a suitable subject and is completed in her Camps Bay studio. Today, Frederike is a reputed artist, represented in collections both locally and abroad.
