For First Thursdays on 7 August, the cathedral will be open for the public to explore from 5pm to 8pm, with a number of scheduled performances throughout the evening.

5-5.30pm: Exploring the space of the Cathedral
5.30-6.15pm: St George's MEF Marimba Team
6.15-6.30pm: Exploring the space of the Cathedral
6.30-6.45pm: Ringing of the Bells
6.45-8pm: Listen to the Choir rehearse

Located at the top end of St George's Mall (on Wale Street), the current building was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in the 1930s. The cathedral has many layers to its history and architecture, including its role as a safe space during Apartheid, under the leadership of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
