In Broken Telephone, Luca Evans and Thato Makatu engage in a collaborative exchange of works made in response to one another, a back-and-forth movement following a train of thought. Reminiscent of a game of ping-pong or “broken telephone,” the process also functions like a game of chess, reshaping and passing ideas between them while allowing each contribution to remain intuitive.

Through throwing, stitching, taping, stapling, and gluing, the artists respond directly to one another. The works in Broken Telephone offer a glimpse into the ongoing conversations they have with themselves, their individual practices, and each other.
